- Summary
- Pathe synopsis: Heidleberg, the old German University town, is a military outpost of America. Yes, it’s just a car-ride from medieval to modern history - to the headquarters of the United States Army in Europe. There’s a top-brass gun salute for the visiting Secretary of the Army [Stanley Resor]. A quarter of a million American soldiers are in Germany, trained to a pitch of fighting perfection that is demonstrated by the men who leap out of the hundred-foot tower at the Airborne Training School. Supermarket shopping centres, where you can buy anything from a hot-dog to the latest car off the production lines, and spacious villages for serviceman’s families, are all part of the pace-setting American way of life in the heart of Europe. But at Hohenfel’s Training Area, you see the true reason for it all. Here’s where men and tanks crunch forward in a mock battle that looks frighteningly real.
