Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Augsburg Raid Interviews. DESCRIPTION: Squadron Leader Nettleton, leader of the Augsburg Raid, talks of the Raid and the Lancaster Bombers which were used. It was a daring daylight raid and resulted in a number of awards. Squadron Leader Nettleton received the VC, Flt Lt Penman the DSO, Sergeants Irons and Huntley the DFM, and the DFC for Flt Lt Hallows and Pilot Officer Sands. SHOTLIST: 1. General Press Show at the Ministry of Information. Mr Brendan Bracken speaking. 2. Groups of Leaders in front of map talking to Leslie Mitchell, (off screen). 3. Squadron Leader Nettleton, VC answers questions set by Leslie Mitchell. 4. Order of groups, L to R as follows: Sergeant DN Huntley, DFM, No 44 (Rhodesia) Squadron, Rhodesia. Pilot Officer DO Sands, DFC, No 44 (Rhodesia) Squadron, Western Desert. Squadron Leader JD Nettleton, VC, No 44 (Rhodesia) Squadron. Capetown, SA. Flight Lieutenant BR Hallows, DFC, No 97 Squadron. Chester. Squadron Leader, DJ Penman, DFC?, DSO, No 97 Squadron, Edinburgh. Sergeant RP Irons, DFM, No 97 Squadron, Walthamstow, London. (This man was the first on left.) King With Fighter Command - CARD 42244 1. HM meets and chats to RAF fighter pilots about to "take off" for sweep over France. 2. Aircraft (Two Cannon Spitfires) taxi out for take-off. 3. Aircraft in flight at 500ft. (Poor formation owing to gale). At second aerodrome. 1. Various shots of HM being introduced to fighter pilots (mainly Royal New Zealand Air Force), upon their return from sweep in which they had joined pilots from first Aerodrome.
