MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Nearer Tokyo (Landings on the Marshalls). DESCRIPTION: The capture of the Marshall Islands has given an air-base of strategic importance. Kwajalein Atoll was the key to winning the Marshall group, the knock-out blow was struck against the string of nearly a hundred coral reefs. SHOTLIST: Cut story - KS. GS of convoy. Map of the Marshall Islands. Various shots of convoy under way, line ahead, shots on board ships. Landing craft packed tightly on decks of ships. Detailed map of Kwajalein Atoll, with indicator arrows where troops landed. Landing nets downside of ship, troops climb down into LCIs. GS of craft tossing about. Various shots of craft approaching beaches, LS of explosions on coast, GV craft making for beach with battleship in background firing her guns. American fighter plane passes overhead. Landing on beach, Marines jump off, wade ashore. On land shots of Marines advancing, group in bomb-hole sniping at enemy. GV of coast, shows machine bullets hitting water. Ashore mortar fired. Explosions. Skeleton of hangar & GS of Roi airstrip (aerodrome). Wrecked planes (Jap). GV shows beaches with transport grounded & hundreds of American Marines assembled on same. Only Marines took part in this landing.
