- MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: British Troops in Greece. DESCRIPTION: The liberation of Greece began with British destroyers operating the Aegean, they were ordered to intercept and destroy enemy shipping trying to evacuate German troops from Crete and the Aegean Islands. The British first landed on the island of Cythera and then on 26th September Greece itself. On the night of 3rd October, the third largest city in Greece, Patras was entered. SHOTLIST: Cut story - KS. Side-wash of destroyer. Various angle shots of destroyers under way, & out of camera. Various off island of Cythera, elevated shots of island. Greeks standing on beaches, as we approach shore. SCU of types. Various shots of island, shows landmarks, etc. old relics, guns etc. Union Jack & Greek flag fly side by side on buildings. Various writings on walls, "Hurrah the RAF" etc. Various shots LSTs. approach beaches, north of the Peloponness. Greeks on beach, applaud, wave, etc., troops disembark from LCIs past camera. Greek girl puts garland of flowers round British Tommies neck. Greeks assist in unloading cargoes. Troops stacking cases of ammunition on beach. Greeks assist in building airfield, laying stones on field. RAF flag flying at masthead. Transport planes land. Aerial shot of Patras. AFU - Crowds line streets of Patras, Sherman tanks & British infantry pass through, armoured cars pass through, jeeps, etc. Various shots of crowds. Mayor of Patras, Vasilio Roufos, rides through cheering crowds on horseback, various shots. Mayor on balcony of city hall, pan up to Greek flag flying on top of building. Finishing on cheering, waving crowds.
