MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Gandhi Visits Riot-Stricken Calcutta. DESCRIPTION: At night the city of Calcutta suffers violent disturbances with clashes between the Muslim and Hindu population. Mr Gandhi visited the city and later spoke of fasting unto death unless the rioting closed. SHOTLIST: CUT STORY: KS GV city main street. City’s main street with gharries and rickshaws going through. Muslim and Hindus in same streets, opposite sides. Several shots of city, including CU fellows feet pulling rickshaw and shot of back of him taken by passenger (Jack Ramsden). Gandhi with Governor General of Bengal, Sir Frederick Burrows and Lieutenant General Bucher, walking shots and CUs of them. Gandhi getting into car. MS Muslim flag flying, streets patrolled by Indian mounted police and foot police. Market street of city. Infantrymen of the Yorkshire and Lancashire Regiments passing through streets in Stuart tanks. Worcester Regiment infantrymen marching through narrow street, patrolling same, GV British troops patrolling main street - Worcestershire Regiment.
