MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Mrs Roosevelt Arrives for Unveiling. DESCRIPTION: Eleanor Roosevelt arrives for the unveiling of her husband’s statue and says how pleased she is to be back in Britain. SHOTLIST: CUT STORY: KS GV RMS Queen Elizabeth approaching quayside. Head on shot bows of ship, shows name on same. Dockers on quay with background of QE alongside quay. Mrs Roosevelt disembarks, off gangway shakes hands with few people. Mrs Roosevelt standing before microphones, asked several questions which included Do America expect war? She replied No, I don’t think so, I think, of course, that when there is much talk there is always anxiety. But I don’t think they expect war. While she is talking she is in close up. Who will be the next president? Mrs R - I haven’t the remotest idea, that’s one thing no one can tell, because no one can tell what will happen in the convention. I would like to say before I finish, how happy I am to be back again. It was in ‘46 that I was here last and I’m very happy to come back to these shores. CU of her smiling.
