MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Terrible Handed Over to Australia. DESCRIPTION: At Plymouth, Lord Hall, first Lord of the Admiralty, handed over the aircraft carrier to Mrs Beasley, wife of the High Commissioner, who was acting on behalf of Australia. The aircraft carrier is re-named HMAS Sydney. SHOTLIST: CUT STORY: KS MS aircraft carrier HMS Terrible. Panning shot across bows of Terrible. GV elevated of officials coming up on elevator to upper deck. GV ship’s company paraded. MS Lord Hall inspects. Ship’s cat walks across the deck. MS crew paraded on flight deck. Mr Beasley, Mrs Beasley, Admiral Burnett seated during ceremony. Mrs Beasley accepts the ship. SCU naval type. Mrs Beasley Australian Coat of Arms. CU ditto. CU Australian flag. GV ship’s crew, looking up at planes passing overhead. Cut-in of carrier’s planes passing overhead - Seafires. The carrier becomes HMAS Sydney.
