- MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Royal Ascot (Rain, Fashion, Sunshine & Racing). DESCRIPTION: Ascot was almost ruined on the second day and the Royal Family arrived in closed cars to see the Royal Hunt Cup which was won by Hyperbole from Wat Tyler. The next day, however, the weather was much better and the Royal drive along the course provided the real Ascot picture. The main race of the day was the Gold Cup which was won by the British horse Supertello with French filly Bagheera second. SHOTLIST: KS Mix picture of rain & sunshine. Various shots of people on the heath with umbrellas up, in pouring rain. Royal cars arrive in rain. Men wearing grey toppers. Several close-ups of women’s hats, large & small. Foreshortened shot bunch of horses. Start of Royal Hunt Cup & horses racing & finish, won by "Hyperbole" just beats "Wat Tyler". Cut-in Princess Elizabeth in box with binoculars. Raining again. NEXT DAY: Elevated GV royal landaus along race-course. 1st landau - King & Queen, 2nd landau - Princess Margaret & Princess Royal. Various crowd shots & fashions. Hat fashions on both sides of course. Mr & Mrs Churchill walk from paddock with Mary & Christopher Soames behind. "Colonist II" parades round & other horses. Royal party walk from paddock towards camera. Queen talks with a very pregnant Princess Elizabeth, King & Princess Royal in picture. LS of the off (Gold Cup), various racing shots. Coming into straight for the last time, "Alindrake" just leading "Supertello" who eventually overtakes "Alindrake" & wins. Royal Box showing Royal party & Miss Sharman Douglas.
