MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Smuts Last Journey. DESCRIPTION: At the Groot Kerk, Pretoria, the funeral service of Field Marshal Smuts was held. Thousands lined the route to the station, from which the coffin was taken to Johannesburg for cremation. SHOTLIST: KS. Crowds gather in streets. GV Groot Kerk. GV of the church. Mourners enter Groot Kerk. Coffin being carried out after service. Placed on gun carriage. Band along street. Various shots of procession, troops of all kinds. Smuts’ awards carried on velvet covered trays. Elevated GV of procession.
