- MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Grenadier Guards 1656 - 1956 - Exhibition. DESCRIPTION: Among the exhibits at St James’s Palace celebrating 300 years of the Grenadier Guards, was a display of regimental uniforms dating from its formation. King Charles the Second founded the Regiment in 1656 while he was exiled at Bruges in Belgium. It was to this lovely old city 300 years later that the 1st Battalion Grenadier Guards made their recent Pilgrimage. Once again, the streets of Bruges echo to the thread of marching Grenadiers.
