Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Petrol Rationing . DESCRIPTION: The oil of Middle East has long been Britain’s main source of supply. It has been shipped from the great wells of the Arab States by the way of the Persian Gulf and the Suez Canal. But Nasser has blocked that route. The pipeline from Iraq runs through Syria and the Syrians have cut the route. Off Britain’s South Coast, under water prospects in one bid to find oil nearer home. The products of Britain’s big refineries will have to be used with strict economy. The interruption to the flow of crude oil to these refineries must have its effect on everyone in Britain. The vast everyday traffic in London and other big cities is a case in point. SHOTLIST: Various shots of petrol tankers being filled at depot. Tankers drive off. Man in bowler, rolled umbrella, brief case riding a bike and arriving at London Office. Takes off clips and hat, enters offices. People at the Post Office handing over Log Books and receiving coupons. Very good shot of newspaper headlines about petrol rationing and the miles allowed etc.
