Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: This Light Must Not Go Out. DESCRIPTION: Today the film industry is facing a crisis - a crisis for which it is not to blame. A seat at your local cinema may cost as little as one shilling and ten pence - but of that, the whole film industry receives one shilling! From every pound paid at the box office, Entertainment Tax removes an average of six shillings and four pence. What is left to pay for everything? Today, in town after town, managers are having to close their cinemas because they are being crippled by a tax amounting to a third of their takings. Unless part of this burden is lifted, many more screens will be darkened. SHOTLIST: GV Leicester Square Cinema - stars arriving for premiere. Stars lined up for presentation. Cinema Box Office scenes. Projection room. Cans. Cameras and lights - studio scenes. Train set - carriages etc. Cameras - carpenter’s shop. Paint shop etc. Various shots of ‘Closed’ cinemas - ‘Sold’ notices. Chairman of Crayford District Council. Children attending morning matinee saying goodbye.
