- Summary
- MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Climbers Trapped in Eiger Mountains. DESCRIPTION: The Eiger Mountain - towering above the Swiss resort of Grindewald, where all eyes followed the search for the climbers who attempted the treacherous North face. The Eiger is over 13 thousand feet high and the ascent is a terrible challenge even in good conditions. But two Italians and two Germans tried it and had to face bad weather as well. So began the biggest rescue operation ever undertaken in the Alps. The luckiest of the four climbers was the Italian, Corti, who was brought down to safety after nine days and nights on the rock face. The Germans had apparently gone on to try to reach the summit and have not yet been found. The other Italian was too exhausted to carry on, and is thought to have since died from exposure. SHOTLIST: Various shots of the Eiger. Shot of photograph of the Alps and the route to be taken by the climbers. Aerials over the Alps. Various shots of the Alps. LS from plane of the rescuers near the summit. Still of Claudio Corti who was rescued. Aerial over the Alps.
