Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: The Queen Mother in Australia. DESCRIPTION: On parade at Duntroon, the Corps of Staff Cadets, at the Royal Military College. The Queen Mother presented the Queen’s Banner to the Corps. It will be held each year by the champion company of the College: the Sovereign’s Company. At Canberra, in the grounds of Government House, school-children from the Australian Territories were presented to the Queen Mother. The youngsters had flown from the Northern Territory, Norfolk Island, Nauru, Papua and New Guinea. Canberra again and a beautiful setting for a royal garden party. Her Majesty was escorted by Sir William Slim, the Governor General. In the evening Parliament House was floodlit for the royal ball. Escorted by the Premier, Mr Menzies, Her Majesty had a special wave for the crowd as she entered King’s Hall. Over a thousand guests were present for this, the most glittering social event of the Canberra visit. The Queen Mother then took the floor.
