MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: The Grapefruit in Orbit. DESCRIPTION: America’s second satellite, equipped with two radio transmitters, was the size of a grapefruit. A Test Vehicle was about to be launched farther into outer space than the Russian Sputniks or the American Explorer. This time, at Cape Canaveral, a Naval Vanguard did the job perfectly. Away and up! To put the grapefruit into orbit at heights varying from 400 to 2,000 miles. To circle the globe at nineteen thousand miles an hour. SHOTLIST: GV rocket site. Man holding satellite. CU same. MS same. MS rocket ready for firing. MS rocket fired. Rocket in mid-air.
