- Rothes Colliery, newest and most expensive in Fife, had a Royal Visitor: Her Majesty checked in. The Queen, immaculate in her white rig, complete with safety helmet and lamp, was on her way down, and spent nearly an hour, sixteen hundred feet below. Prince Philip, who took a different route to the coal face, talked with miners.
