- MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Jap Typhoon. DESCRIPTION: The full fury of typhoon Vera was striking the Japanese island of Honshu. The wind’s reported to have reached a force of over 150 miles an hour, the most devastating typhoon ever recorded in Japan. A 7,000 ton British freighter was hurled ashore, when a tidal wave hit the coast. Destruction was appalling: over a million people are homeless, over 3,000 dead, many thousands missing, and twelve thousand injured. The area round Nagoya suffered most heavily. SHOTLIST: No Dope received.
