Summary

MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Top Level Talks. DESCRIPTION: Arriving at Toulon, the USS Des Moines had brought President Eisenhower back from his visit to Tunis. After his official welcome on the quay, Ike was soon speeding through the town, which gave him a very cheery greeting. Then, by train, en route for Paris, and, accompanied by Secretary of State Herter, the President was now heading for the Western Summit conference. The train journey ended at the Gare de Lyon where President de Gaulle was on the platform to offer his welcome. Meanwhile, the West German Chancellor, Dr Adenauer arrived and was greeted by Monsieur Debre, the French Premier. The first conference of the Western Big Four was held at the Elysee. Seen here is the Chancellor’s arrival who took part in it. Now, Orly airport: and the arrival of Britain’s Prime Minister, Mr Harold Macmillan. It was Monsieur Debre again, who led the reception. For Mr Macmillan, whose initiative in going to Moscow early in the year pointed the way to the summit, the present conference must have brought much satisfaction. SHOTLIST: Shot of ‘Des Moines’.
