Summary
King Mohammed’s death during an operation came as a tremendous shock to his subjects by whom he was greatly respected and loved. From the Royal Palace at Rabat, his coffin was carried out for the funeral procession. Before the procession to the place of burial, there was the lying-in-state in the palace gardens, where tribute was paid by the new King Moulay Hassan II, President Bourguiba of Tunisia, and representatives of many other countries. Then, the gun-carriage bearing the coffin began the journey to the Hassan Tower, where it would be laid in the tomb of the King’s ancestors.
