- Summary
- MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Advance in the Air (In Colour). DESCRIPTION: Once again, it’s Farnborough Week, where all the latest in British aircraft design is on show. The much-publicised Blue Streak, our first stage for the European space launcher, was among the static display. Target for most people’s attention, a sleek model of the proposed Anglo-French supersonic jet liner. And the Beagle, an executive plane, that has captured the imagination of many businessmen. The last word for high-powered executives is the jet DH125. It comes from the same stable as the Trident, the world’s first 3-jet liner, and designed for short-haul routes. Its big brother is the giant VC10, also with rear-mounted engines. As usual, research planes claim a lot of attention. For example, the HP115; and the all-steel Bristol 188, built to probe the Heat Barrier. Now, the fighter of the future, the Hawker P1127. It can hover and remain stationary, and it can even fly backwards! Lightnings and Hunters provided the climax to this feast of flight. SHOTLIST: Key scene. AS Farnborough.
