- Summary
- MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Saving the Salmon. DESCRIPTION: A hundred thousand salmon enter the Big Qualicum river on Vancouver Island every year. Of three hundred and fifty million eggs, only ten per cent mature. One reason is the flow of water, so they’ve built a barrage system to control the flow and divert polluted streams from the spawning grounds. So far they’ve spent one and a quarter million dollars. The temperature of a salmon river is also vital to survival, so by drawing water from a lake - at varying levels and temperatures, it’s possible to cool-off the river. SHOTLIST: Key scene.
