- Summary
- MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: The Queen Sees the Snowy (Colour). DESCRIPTION: The Snowy Mountains in New South Wales and Victoria are the highest land-mass on the Australian Continent. And the highest town in Australia is Cabamurra on the main range. During their visit, the Queen and Prince Philip stayed in Edinburgh Cottage. They attended a morning service at a tiny church at Island Bend. The Queen’s visit to The Snowy was a chance to see a part of the Australian Dream. A dream of one day bringing water from the mountains to irrigate the dry dust-bowl of the outback. To get a close-up of this tough and often dangerous enterprise, the Queen, suitable protected, was to go down one of the tunnels along which whole rivers are being diverted to irrigate the inland acres. A hundred miles of tunnels, channelling water to bring electric power and the promise of plenty. Nine major dams are being built. The Snowy scheme, covering an area of three thousand square miles, will cost four hundred million pounds. SHOTLIST: Key scene (fade in). AS Snowy Mountains (5 shots). MS pan - Edinburgh Cottage.
