Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: White City - Turning on the Heat. DESCRIPTION: Highlight of the second day of the British Games was the 880 yards, with John Boulter and Robbie Brightwell battling it out. Brightwell turned on the heat and just beat Boulter at the post, the fastest half mile in the world this year. In the high jump, Gordon Miller improved his own UK National record: six feet, 10 inches. Finally, one of the international events, the 4 x 100 metres relay. Victory went to Britain when Alf Meakin crossed the line a tenth of a second ahead of Hungary’s number 4. SHOTLIST: Key scene. GV pan start of 880 yards and runners round first bend (one of the runners is Michael Fleet). GV pan same come round for last lap and John Boulter takes lead. GV crowd. GV pan along finishing straight. Robbie Brightwell overtakes Boulter and wins. CU Brightwell. MLS Gordon Miller attempts to jump 6 ft 10 inches (high jump). GV 4 x 100 metres relay - British A team win with Alf Meakin crossing the finishing line. Relay team are: Radford, Meakin, Young and Jones.
