- Summary
- MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Aviation - Another White Elephant?. DESCRIPTION: The test flight of the XB70, the newest American intercontinental bomber, capable of flying at three times the speed of sound, was not without hazard. One of the engines had to be cut. The landing gear jammed, and they couldn’t retract the wheels. On touch down, the brakes were found to be locked, and a tyre exploded and fire broke out as the wheels were ground away by friction with the runway. And this 275 ton monster has doubtful chances of survival. SHOTLIST: Key scene. LS XB70 prototype intercontinental bomber. MCU pan same. MS crowds on roof of airfield building.
