MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Durham Miners Gala. DESCRIPTION: The annual miners’ gala, when the men take a day off to parade through the streets of the city with brass bands blaring and banners flying. A rainy day fails to dull the festivities, and there to watch the parade, Leader of the Opposition Harold Wilson and other Labour Party personalities. SHOTLIST: GV procession of miners, bands etc. through main street. CU pan large banner of Mr Wilson. SV Wilson, Wedgwood Benn, Barbara Castle on County Hotel balcony, SV pan colliery band zoom in to drummer. SV band marching towards headed by woman holding up skirt & showing long pants. GV miners carrying banner past hotel. SV Scottish pipe band through street. GBV as procession nears open arena. CU sign hot dogs. SV sign Freshly Made Tea. CU sign Hamburgers & Beefburgers. CU children on roundabout. SV bandsmen instruments on ground. CU zoom out Queen of Coal. GV Barbara Castle addresses crowd. LV crowd listens. Side view Castle speaking. CU Mr Wilson lights pipe.
