- Summary
- COI synopsis: Often being forced to rethink and see things in a different way can open up a vast avenue of approach to new ideas. This issue looks at recent developments in science which grew out of just this kind of rethink. Rethinking what we mean by car safety. A new device is designed to protect, not the passengers inside, but the pedestrians outside the car.
- Researcher Comments
- A normal car has three impacts: it hits the legs, the child hits the bonnet, is thrown onto the road and run over. With the pedestrian-catcher car, impact triggers off a retaining bar designed to hold the child safely, preventing him or her from being thrown forward and run over.
