Summary
COI synopsis: From its mercenary beginnings, funding William of Orange’s campaign against Louis XIV of France, the Bank of England has grown into one of the most sophisticated and reliable banking institutions in the world. Mandy Cuthbert learns how the Bank of England goes about its business, how its branch representatives are called agents and not managers; how it turns out six million new banknotes a day and, more quirkily, how it burns 6 million old ones... just to heat up its own building.
