Summary
NoS Summary - Various shots of girl rowing teams in competition on the Thames.
British Pathe synopsis: "These are the real River Girls, the strenuous-life-loving oarswomen of Father Thames." C/U of a group of girls wearing a kind of rowing uniform - black shorts and black blazers trimmed with a black and white stripe. One of the girls wears a T-shirt which has a black "clubs" symbol appliquéd on. Camera tilts down to show their legs. Another group of girl rowers, this time dressed in white outfits stand with their blades (oars) with two men. The girls walk with their oars down to the edge of a river. Crowds of spectators line the side of the river. High angle shot of woman sculler setting off. Another rower passes the camera. "Day in, day out, weather good, bad or indifferent, they skim the surface, the clank of their rowlocks sounding sweet music." Various shots of women rowing on what looks like a very chilly day. "Dress may be on the short side, but freedom you must have in this energetic sport." Panning shot of the girls in a four. They row off. Low angle shot of girl spectators on the balcony of a clubhouse. Teams in a race row past the camera. Shot of three women wearing the black team colours standing at the waters edge filming the race with an amateur cine camera. L/S of one of the teams passing the winning post. M/S of some of the race spectators milling around. "Everything goes with a swing." Camera on board a boat follows two teams of six as they row. They row towards a large bridge.
