Summary
NoS Summary - modern train is compared to an "old fashioned" locomotive
British Pathe synopsis: "If you wandered to the Station the morning after the night before and saw this little effort waiting for you, you’d stare..." M/S of the front of an old fashioned steam locomotive. Two men stand on the engine driver’s platform. Camera tilts up. "Born in 1831 she’s the oldest engine in New York. Compare her with "1933". M/S of the old fashioned train and a more up to date 1933 version moving towards the camera on parallel railway tracks. Camera turns as they pass to show the wheels of the newer train as they move along the track. Moving shot of the trains from another train. "And 1831’s 3’10" driving wheels look small beside her brother’s 6’10" samples." C/U of the old locomotive’s wheels. Panning shot of the new train’s wheels. "And here’s something else that looks like an engine - but isn’t." M/S of another old train moving towards the camera. Lots of people in old fashioned clothes sit on top of the carriages pulled by the engine.
