- Summary
- BFI synopsis: An item covering how the inhabitants of the Cotswold town Moreton-in-Marsh decided to save on the rates when the town, in the middle of a beauty spot, needed doing up, and do the repairs and redecorating themselves. The different tasks individuals did is shown, including gardening, trimming the hedges, cleaning out the duck pond, and painting houses. This is followed by a look at a "do-it-yourself" railway, the Talyllyn Narrow Gauge Railway at Towyn, Wales, which is run and operated as a spare time hobby by a group of railway enthusiasts from all over Britain. They rebuild the track, replace sleepers, service the rolling stock and maintain stations, the film follows one of the locomotives on its journey.
