- Rhodesian Spotlight synopsis: Sir Robert Tredgold lays the Foundation Stone of a new Hindu Community Hall in Salisbury.
Rhodesian Spotlight Commentary - Salisbury’s Hindus are now building a new Community Hall. Arriving to lay the foundation stone Sir Robert Tredgold was garlanded and greeted with a dance of welcome. This was performed by children of the Salisbury Hindu School who scattered rose petals.
Mr. J. B. Patel said the new Community Hall would cost 50 thousands pounds, 30 thousand of which had already been collected. The Acting Governor General officially laid the stone. Then much as Europeans might break a bottle of Champagne, a Hindu Priest broke a coconut over the stone. This was followed by a most charming traditional Indian dance, the dance of the Lights. The symbolic significance of the little candles is that the new Hall will lighten and brighten the way to the greater culture and knowledge of Salisbury’s Indian Community. - Keywords
