Othello
- Synopsis
- This television production marked the directorial debut of Janet Suzman and was staged in her native South Africa by the Market Theatre of Johannesburg. Casting black actor John Kani in the title role, the production caused a sensation there because of its strong story, sensuality and political relevance.' Many production strive to make the play ‘relevant’; this one hardly needed to, and is all the more potent for it’ (The Guardian, 2019).
