Carry on Cleo
- Synopsis
- Feature film comedy and a parody of CLEOPATRA (1963). The film spoofs history in general and British attitudes in particular. Noted for it’s gloriously bad puns as in ‘Infamy, infamy, they’ve all got it in for me’ spoken by Kenneth Williams as Caesar.

Notes
- General
- The 1963 CLEOPATRA began filming at Pinewood in September 1960, but after only a few months shooting and numerous problems the production continued elsewhere. Partly as revenge, partly because the sets had been left behind, this parody was devised. The appropriated sets give it production values in excess those of the usual Carry On films. The opening credits famously state ‘Based on idea by William Shakespeare’.
