Shakespeare at the Movies

Synopsis
Music from filmed Shakespeare plays performed by the City of Prague Philharmonic and Crouch End Festival Chorus, conducted by Paul Bateman, Nic Raine and Kenneth Alwyn. Also included are well known dialogue excerpts read by Derek Jacobi, Jenny Agutter, Ben Kingsley and Ioann Gruffudd.

TWELFTH NIGHT (1996) ‘I’ll tell thee a tale’ (Shaun Davey).

HENRY V (1944) Overture, Pasacaglia - the Death of Falstaff, ‘This day is called the feast of St Crispian’ , ‘Battle and charge - the French court’, ‘Touch her soft lips and part’, Finale - the Agincourt Song (William Walton).

HAMLET (1964). Prelude, Ball at the palace (Shostakovich).

HAMLET (1996). ‘Sweets to the sweet farewell’ (Patrick Doyle) followed by Derek Jacobi reading ‘To be, or not to be, that is the question’.

MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING (1997) Overture, ‘Goddess of the night/Strike up pipers’ (Patrick Doyle).

ANTONY AND CLEOPATRA ‘I dreamt there was an emporer Antony’ (Reading by Jenny Agutter and Bruce McGregor).

ROMEO AND JULIET. Craig Armstrong reads from the balcony scene and Jenny Agutter and Ioan Gruffudd read ‘But soft, what light through yonder window breaks’.

LOVE’S LABOUR’S LOST (2000). Arrival of the princess (Patrick Doyle).

A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM (1999). Jenny Agutter reads ‘If we shadows have offended’ followed by Intermezzo from Cavalleria Rusticana (Pietro Mascagni).

SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE (1999). Suite (Stephen Warbeck)
