- Only one reel of the two produced is believed to exist. The existing reel is of the first half of the play and is c 55mins. This was the first BBC Shakespeare play to be transmitted in colour.
- General
- According to the Royal Shakespeare Company archive, the cast initially included Ian Richardson, Sebastian Shaw, Brewster Mason, Elizabeth Spriggs and Helen Mirren. From 14th February they were replaced by Michael Jayston, Clifford Rose, Nicholas Selby, Heather Canning and Caroline Hunt respectively. From April 1 Patrick O’Connell was replaced by David Bailie.
