Actors for this production were recruited from Robert Atkins’ Bankside Players, an Open Air Theatre Company which performed the play at Regent’s Park, London in June 1946.
History
The first Shakespeare programme to be broadcast after television transmission was suspended at the outbreak of the Second World War in 1939.

In the Radio Times issue 12 July 1946, Ian Atkins describes some of the problems involved in adapting his father’s Open Air Theatre production for the television screen ("Open Air Theatre to Studio", p. 27).
