The production was set in the period just before World War I, drawing parallels between the militant nationalism of Coriolanus and the doctrines of the Kaiser in the Second Reich.
History
The production was first staged at the Queen’s Theatre, London, in 1964 and was subsequently recorded for television at the Chichester Festival Theatre in April 1965.
