- Synopsis
- Television eight-part series in which on consecutive evenings actors perform extracts from Shakespeare’s plays and poems. Episode 4 - Benedict Wong performs ‘Hang there my verse in witness of my love’ (III ii), from As You Like It, Ronni Ancona performs ‘His legs bestrid the ocean, his reared arm crested the world’ (V ii) from Antony and Cleopatra, David Harewood performs ‘Oh, she doth teach the torches to burn bright’ from Romeo and Juliet (1 v), Ralf Little performs ‘To leave my Julia shall I be forsworn’ from Two Gentlemen of Verona (II vi). Seeta Indrani reads Sonnet 52 ‘So am I as the rich whose blessed key can bring him to the sweet’ and Leo Gregory reads sonnet 40 ‘take all my loves, my love, yea take them all’, Delroy Atkinson, Ashley Campbell and Oliver Mason perform ‘Fie on sinful fantasy, fie on lust and lechery’ from The Merry Wives of Windsor (V v). Catherine Tate performs ‘How happy some o’er others can be, In Athens I am thought as fair as she’ from A Midsummer Night’s Dream (I i), Daniela Nardini reads sonnet 147 ‘My love is as a fever longing still for that which nurseth the disease’, Stephen Tompkinson performs ‘O, beware my lord of jealousy’ from Othello (III iii) and Fraser James performs ‘there have been, or I am much deceived, cukolds ere now’ (I ii) from The Winter’s Tale.
