- Synopsis
- A recording of the stage play which ran from 23 January-8 March 1981 at the Lincoln Centre for the Performing Arts, New York City and was transmitted by ARTS cable channel on 6 Decembe 1981. Directed for the stage by Sarah Caldwell and for ARTS by Kirk Browning. Philip Anglim and Maureen Anderman are the Macbeths.

The film was marketed by Films for the Humanities on VHS in the early 1980s but is currently unavailable. Copies are to be found, however, in many US libraries. - Reviews

Of the stage performance Frank Rich wrote in The New York Times (24 January 1981) ‘I don’t know what this actor is up to in ''Macbeth,'' and I doubt that he does, either. In the early scenes, he is so shifty-eyed and bonkers that one expects him to be arrested for suspicion of murder before he actually commits one’.
