Synopsis
13-part television documentary series on the history of theatre, written and presented by Ronald Harwood. Episode 5, A MUSE OF FIRE, looks at the roots and background to Shakespeare’s theatre. Includes excerpts from a performance of Henry V at the Globe Theatre, Cedar City, Utah (Jeremy Irons performs the Prologue). From the same theatre, Jeremy Irons and others perform scenes from Hamlet (I iv, II ii, III i and III ii). Michael Langham, director of the Hamlet production, comments on the scenes. There is an interview with Sam Wanamaker who speaks of wanting to rebuild Shakespeare’s Globe; further comments from Peter Hall, Michael Billington, Alan J. Lerner, Ariane Mnouchkine (director, Theatre du Soleil, Paris) and Peter Brook.
