- Synopsis
- Radio broadcast with the theme of Shakespeare in opera. Up-and-coming stars give their annual concert from the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. Presented by Stephanie Hughes in conversation with opera critic John Allison. The Orchestra is conducted by Graeme Jenkins and Jared Holt. The operas included are: Nicolai - Overture to The Merry Wives of Windsor; Ambroise Thomas - Hamlet (Act III, excerpts); Rossini - Otello (Act II, excerpts), Gounod - Romeo et Juliette (Act III, excerpts, Verdi - Ballet music from Macbeth; Britten - A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Act II, excerpts) and Walton - Troilus and Cressida (Act II, excerpts). The singers are Ha Young Lee, Victoria Nava and Katie Van Kooten (sopranos), Liora Grodnikaite (mezzo), James Edwards, Andrew Kennedy and Robert Murray (tenors), Jared Holt (baritone), Matthew Rose (bass).
