Notes
- General
- First staged at the Donmar Theatre, Covent Garden, London and Mendes’ final work as the Donmar’s director. The production was conceived as repertory piece, alternating performances with Uncle Vanya using the same cast and each play informing the other. The two productions secured three Olivier Awards in the UK but were critically savaged in the New York press. The studio production was not helped by being staged in the 900-seater Harvey Theatre where delicacies of performance were frequently lost.
- Awards
- Sam Mendes won an Olivier Award for Best Director for this production.
