Synopsis

Television anthology arts series. Alan Yentob presents a documentary about three actors who are preparing to play Hamlet. Welsh actor Wayne Cater is directed by Michael Bogdanov for the Wales Theatre Company, Cardiff; Vaneshran Arumugam is directed by Janet Suzman for the Baxter Theatre, Cape Town (later to come to Stratford upon Avon in the 2006/7 Complete Works Festival) and Michael Cumpsty performing off-Broadway for the Classic Stage Company in New York. There are comments from other actors who have previously played the part - David Warner, Ed Stoppard, Frances de la Tour, Ralph Fiennes, Derek Jacobi, Simon Russell Beale and Jonathan Pryce. Includes brief footage from the stage performances of Stoppard, Pryce and Jacobi.
