Derek Jacobi is interviewed by Brian Holland in front of a small studio audience in which he discusses his background, his role in the BBC production of I CLAUDIUS and his production of Hamlet with the Old Vic which toured the world and made headlines by playing in Communist China.

Notes
The tape held by the BFI National Archive also includes all the production footage before and after the interview. The filmed inserts showing Jacobi in rehearsal are included after the end of the interview although we see Jacobi and the audience listen to them. There is also footage from 26/07/1979 in which Princess Alexandra goes backstage to congratulate Jacobi and the cast on the production of Hamlet at the Old Vic.
