- Synopsis
- An exploration of Shakespeare’s most famous character Hamlet, introduced by Sir John Gielgud with excerpts from the screen interpretations of Laurence Olivier, John Barrymore, Nicol Williamson, Maximilian Schell, Innokenti Smoktunovsky, Brian Bedford, Sarah Bernhardt and Asta Nielsen. The programme includes clips from the Ghanaian film version HAMILE (1964) and from A DIARY FOR TIMOTHY (1946) directed by Humphrey Jennings. Also included are comments by Tom Courtney, Richard Chamberlain, Caspar Wrede and Michael Kahn.
