Reviews
Shrimpton, Nicholas. Shakespeare Survey 37 91984), pp163-73. Smith, Jamie Jo. `"And speak I will’: Listening to Katharina in Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew.", Dissertation Abstracts International 56 (1995-96): 407A (Texas). The article observes that ‘portrayals of Kate can be used to prescript behavior’ and that, historically, she ‘makes frequent appearances whenever the threat of female independence occurs’. Finds evidence for this argument in Royal Shakespeare Company productions of The Taming of the Shrew by Michael Bogdanov (q.v.), Barry Kyle (q.v.), and Jonathan Miller (q.v.).
