Magic of Peter Brook, 1, The

Synopsis
Television arts series. Peter Brook and his Experimental Theatre Company prepare for a production of The Tempest and are seen in acting exercises and performance. Brook believes that we no longer know what theatre can be and we need to re-discover a sense of ‘magic’; he also asks what do we mean by ‘acting’? The actors explore a range of human possibilities, for example Caliban is a ‘monster’ so the actor must find the monster in himself to portray this figure. Brook talks about the future of theatre, and theatre critic Margaret Croyden gives a commentary on Brook’s work.
