Notes
- Notes
- Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre makes several recordings of a single production, using three fixed cameras, to enable practitioners and researchers to observe how the play has developed during the run.
- General
- For this production a roof was placed on the Globe’s open-air amphitheatre for the first time in its history - a controversial decision. Designer William Dudley took as his inspiration the innovative feature of the Colosseum known as the valerium - a cooling system which consisted of a canvas-covered, net-like structure made of ropes, with a hole in the centre. He believed that his design created a dark and funereal setting, echoing the play’s themes of war and death.
- History
- The production formed part of The Edges of Rome season, running May 5- 13 August 2006.
