- Synopsis
- Educational series. One in a twelve-part series of films made by the Ontario Educational Communications Authority (now TV Ontario). The aim was to relate ‘Shakespeare’s timeless ideas and understanding of human motivations to contemporary society’. Kenneth Rothwell in Shakespeare on Screen notes ‘The Tempest unit opens with a collage of photographs of corpses in concentration camps, of the KKK on the march, of ‘Public Enemy’ James Cagney pushing a grapefruit into Mae Clarke’s face, of a crucified Christ, and, oh yes, (this is the Vietnam era), of the face of Lyndon Baines Johnson, then the anti-Christ in the eyes of the peace movment’. Scenes from the play are enacted.
