Guthrie, Sir Tyrone - Interview

Synopsis
Sir Tyrone Guthrie talks about his life and theatrical career in an interview with Grace Lydiatt Shaw recorded at his home in Ireland. He speaks of the Scottish National Players in Edinburgh, and staging Hamlet in Elsinore with Laurence Olivier. Guthrie also speaks of directing The Merchant of Venice staged in Israel with the Habima Company and his work at the Polish Shakespeare Festival; both are remembered in detail. Concludes with a description of the Tyrone Guthrie Theatre in Minneapolis, and Guthrie’s efforts to introduce jam manufacturing into his local Irish village in order to revitalise its industry.

It was originally recorded for a two-part radio portrait, L’Homme de Theatre, broadcast on CBC. The transmission date of this radio broadcast is not known.
